Sightseeing and Places of Interest

There is an almost endless list of places to visit in the area, from wonderful scenery, ancient villages, beautiful architecture and sites of outstanding natural beauty. Here are a few suggestions but by no means an exhaustive list:

Not withstanding the wonderful scenery and al fresco living offered by the local area, there is no doubt that one of the highlights of
holidaying in this location is the quality and value of the local restaurants. There are a number of excellent restaurants close by,

namely La Souce at Ste Livrade,  Le Saint Exupery on the outskirts of Monpezat and the restaurant La Bastide Saint Louis in the local village of Prayssas. All three offer fine cuisine and excellent value for money, but La Bastide Saint Louis is particularly popular with guests.

Villages and Towns

The local village of Prayssas is just 4kms away. This old bastide village is full of life in the summer months, extremely pretty and
boasts all facilities; shops, restaurants, bar, post office, pharmacy and medical centre. Visit for more info.

The area boasts some fine examples of bastide villages. Pujols is only 15 mins away and is exceptionally pretty. Slighty
further afield (30 mins) is Penne d’Agenias, an excellent example of a bastide village and extremely pretty.

The two local towns (both approx 20 mins away) are Agen and Villenueve sur Lot. Both are very attractive and have excellent pedestrianised shopping areas in the town centres and a number of commercial centres on the outskirts with hypermarkets and other retail outlets. Agen is renowned for the aquaduct which carries the Canal du Midi across the Garonne river – recently featured in the Rick Stein tv series, "A French Oddessey".

Villeneuve is centred on the River Lot and has some very picturesque old bridges and buildings, an excellent pedestianised shopping

area and a vibrant twice-weekly market.  The area and region abounds with historical buildings and places of interest, but one worthy of particular mention is the wonderful Chateau Bonaguil. Although this is approximately one and a quarter hours drive away, it is well worth the trip. Please check out the website for more

This region of France is renowned for spectacular cave systems. Although some two hours drive away, the most famous and spectacular
example of these is Le Gouffre de Padirac. This is a simply stunning cave system and well worth the drive, for more information.

More locally, two cave systems, le Grotte de Fontinou and le Grotte de Lastournelle are both within 15 minutes drive and well worth a visit.

Beaches and Mountains

Further afield, the beautiful Pyrenées Mountains and the stunning beaches of the Atlantic are approximately 2-2½ hour’s drive and are an absolute must if guests are considering a longer day trip. For the Pyrenees, try visiting the Col d’Aspin and Col d’Tourmalet for magnificent scenery and views. The wild ponies are very tame and more than happy to share a picnic with visitors...!

For the beach, look no further than the Atlantic beaches of Mimozan and particularly Contis Plage. Both offer miles of unspoilt sandy
beaches, warm seas and supervised bathing areas.

Walking and Cycling

Although not widely known as a centre for walking and cycling, the local area, with its wonderful countryside is an ideal location
for both pursuits. In particular, the nature reserve of the Lac d’Salabert is within very easy reach of the properties being just 4
kilometres away, and is within easy walking distance. The lake is a nature reserve for wild fowl and offers magnificent designated walks and cycleways around the lake and the surrounding wooded valley, starting and finishing at the observation centre at lakeside.

Theme Park

For the younger guests, in heart or age, Agen boasts the renowned Parc Walibi which provides an excellent day out for theme
park enthusiasts. Please visit the website for full details.

The region is blessed with wonderful countryside and historical places of interest, so is ideal for both passive and more active pursuits.
